Sometimes it just takes one person to reach out and help . . .
Many Christian organizations have started with such a person, having a vision of how God wants to express His love and grace through His body.
Jesus said: “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. Go and learn what this means, ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice.’ For I came not to call the righteous, but sinners” (Matt. 9:12). Throughout the Bible, God has a special place for society’s castaways.
Passion Community UK is such an expression of God’s mercy to those who are in dire need of it. We’re Transforming and Empowering Youth through the Gospel of Christ!
How it All Started . . .
Vivian Opia faced poverty and a lack of education herself when growing up. Her experience with the life-changing power of the gospel created a desire to reach out to youth, facing similar hardships. Needless to say, these major adversities can easily lead to life-controlling problems—isolation, alcohol, drugs, prostitution, crime, imprisonment, homelessness, etc.
Raymond and Vivian Opia started Passion Community UK in 2013. They are supported by like-minded Christians like you who want to make a lasting difference in the lives of the next generation … and not without success.
Passion Community UK has helped young people with:
– Basic necessities
– Volunteer work
Faith and Practicality . . .
One of the distinguishing marks of Passion Community UK is its holistic approach. James’ words ring true:
“If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, ‘Go in peace, be warmed and filled,’ without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead” (James 2:15-17).
It’s one thing to preach the gospel; it’s quite another to also express it in everyday practicality. For example,we freely provide:
• Counseling for life-controlling problems
• Self-development to grow as a person
• Personal mentoring to be successful
• Training to develop skills for the job market
• And many other free services
In relation to the gospel, Jesus said: “You received without paying; give without pay” (Matt. 10:8). We’re supported by Christians who deeply realize the freeness of the gospel and want to express that accordingly.
A Future Hostel . . .
The Lord willing, Passion Community UK will continue to provide these free services, but we believe the Lord wants us to do more with your help.
Our goal is to provide a hostel for young people who are homeless and have no place to go. The hostel will provide:
• A hot meal, shower, and clothing
• A warm and welcoming environment
• A safe, clean, secure place from harm
• A warm room to lay one’s head
The hostel will also provide free cookery, arts and computer, life skills classes, and sport activities.
Will you join us in prayer and financial giving to provide such a place as an expression of God’s love and grace to those who have no home? Indeed, “God settles the solitary in a home” (Ps. 68:6). In order to do so, God uses people like you and me.
Will you be such a God-like expression?
Didn’t Jesus state: “For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me” (Matt. 25:35-36).
